Turn bed dimensions and chosen plant spacing into a rectangular planting grid.
Use the crop’s seed-packet or local-extension spacing. The starting values demonstrate the calculation; they are not a recommendation for every crop. Exclude paths before measuring.
For each dimension, subtract two edge clearances. Divide the usable distance by the relevant center-to-center spacing, round down, then add one starting position. Multiply rows by positions per row. A dimension smaller than twice the edge clearance has no positions.
This tool does not recommend crop density, calculate staggered planting, allow for pathways or predict harvest. Trellises, mature spread, airflow, root competition and maintenance access can require fewer plants. Rotate the length and width entries to compare orientations.
