These reusable six-cell inserts are useful when you want to move small groups of seedlings without committing an entire large tray to one crop. Twelve inserts fit a 1020 tray, allowing batches with different sowing dates to be separated later. The manufacturer specifies polypropylene construction, large 5/8-inch drainage holes and side slits designed for air pruning. The holes also provide access beneath a root plug, but gentle removal and suitable root development still matter. Each insert measures 5 by 3⅓ inches and 2¼ inches high, so check compatibility with trays and shelf space rather than relying only on the 1020 name.
